BECOMING-SPACE is a site-specific performative live project that will take place at Atelierhaus der bildenden Künste Wien on November 10th 2023. Two female artists of diverse backgrounds and at different stages of their lives undertake an ongoing transforming journey to address the biases imposed on women by society.
Ines Valentinitsch and Alexandra Cassirer expose to the public the most intimate process of creation, turning it into a time-based work of art. The transformative force they are looking for is in the liminal space. Their race with time is witnessed and validated by the third eye - that of the public. It's a space where vulnerability is transformed into power since everyone present is tuned in.
Sound Artist Shari De Lorian performs music during the live performance. Multiple layers from a selection of old and rare records merge with acoustic instruments from our past and clash with handmade industrial tools.
(b. 1987) is a multidisciplinary artist of Jewish origin born in Moldova, based in Milan. Alexandra works with memory and fluidity of the female nature that is split between carnal joy and sensual vulnerability. Alexandra's urge to melt inner statements into body language traces back to the first decade of her life spent with her grandparents in the deaf-mute community. The prevalence of metamorphosis over the static form is transmitted through video and photography artworks as well as live performances. The artist's work has been shortlisted for the Summer Exhibition 2023 at the Royal Academy of Arts, London.
Alexandra Cassirer
(b. 1987) is a curator and activist focusing on live and transmedia art, based in Paris. Among the projects that she took part are 'Humble Works' show by Marina Abramovich, Nico Vascellari, and Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich at Colnaghi gallery (2022, London); a performative long-durational installation ‘Performance Carousel’ (2014, Faena Art Center, Buenos Aires; 2016, Künstlerhaus, Vienna; 2018, CESC, São Paulo), O Batatodromo live performative installation (CCBB, Brasilia, 2016; Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2018).
Anna Shpilko Ravagli
(b. 1972), is an Austrian artist who lives and works alternately in Munich and Milan. Ines presents body perception and sensuality of a new era with changing role models in society. She incorporates sensitive yet minimal and powerful watercolor paintings into mixed-media installations that involve live art and performance. The artist directs the viewer's focus to the positive potential and soft power of exposed vulnerability. Exhibitions in Munich, Milan, Turin, Kitzbühel, St. Moritz, Graz.
